In 2018 Paul travelled to Sweden, with the support of the Bergman Foundation, to write in Ingmar Bergman's cabin where Persona was written, to bring his unique vision to create a new theatrical adaptation of the iconic film, adding the character of The Narrator and using Bergman’s unseen notes and words for a fresh take on this enigmatic masterpiece.
Alma was played by Olivier award winner Alice Krige and actor/singer/songwriter Nobuhle Mngcwengi plays Elizabet.
William Close, renowned composer and musician, joined as the fourth voice in the quartet, playing his signature Earth Harp. The Harp’s resonating chamber rested on the stage & the strings went out over the audience to the grid above, creating an extraordinary multi-dimensional experience.
Persona on Stage was chosen to open Riverside Studios in 2020, the British and World Premiere of the production
In 1977 Paul formed the Theatre Company Blind Summit with Bruce Liddington, combining the English tradition with the French "shorthand" mimetic technique
Paul's play challenging the common preconceptions of the life of one of history's greatest heroes, was well received at the Edinburgh Festival
